The X3 is BMW's second SUV which joined the X5 for the 2004 model year. BMW refers to the X3 as a Sport Activity Vehicle, with an emphasis on performance. The X3 is only slightly smaller than the X5 and features the xDrive all-wheel drive and traction system. For 2007 the X3 was updated with a new engine, new transmission, more refined interior and a freshened exterior. The X3 was redesigned for 2011. The 2012 BMW X3 receives floor mats and black high-gloss interior trim as standard. The Cold Weather Package now includes a heated steering wheel and the optional Premium Sound Package includes a premium sound system and Sirius satellite radio. The Panorama moonroof is now standard on the X3 xDrive35i.
The X5 represents BMW's first foray into the popular sport-utility-vehicle marketplace. Billed as a 'Sports Activity Vehicle' by its maker, the X5 is designed to handle like a true BMW. The X5 was unveiled in Detroit at the 1999 North American International Auto Show and by the end of its second model year was BMW's second-best-selling model. For 2007 the X5 was redesigned with a revised chassis, more powerful and fuel efficient engines and a more responsive 6-speed automatic transmission. Longer, wider and taller than its predecessor, the X5 offers available 7-passenger seating. The 2012 BMW X5 continues unchanged for 2012 after design updates and new engines for 2011.
Called a Sports Activity Coupe by BMW, the 2008 BMW X6 is a new crossover SUV touted as a synthesis of coupe-like agility with Sports Activity Vehicle versatility. With five doors and four seats, the X6 combines a coupe profile with a higher ride height and offers a surprising amount of cargo space. The X6 features the latest version of BMW's intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system, with electronically controlled torque distribution between the front and rear axles. The X6 introduces Dynamic Performance Control - an innovative computer-controlled rear axle that varies torque distribution between the rear wheels and can multiply the torque to an individual wheel to help steer the vehicle. The 2012 BMW X6 is now offered with optional 5-passenger seating. Standard equipment now includes iPod/USB Adapter, BMW Assist, Auto-dimming Mirrors, Privacy Glass, Ambient Lighting and Heated Front Seats as standard equipment. Lumbar Support is added to the X6 xDrive35i and Universal Garage Door Opener is added to the X6 xDrive50i. To read more about the 2012 BMW X Series, visit MSN Autos
