The A8 is Audi's flagship luxury sedan which is redesigned for the 2011 model year. The A8 originally debuted for the 1997 model year as the replacement for the Audi V8 which had been discontinued in North America after the 1994 model year. The original A8 featured extensive use of aluminum, which was unusual at the time and gave the A8 a weight advantage compared to some of its competitors. The extended-wheelbase A8 L was added for 2000 and the second-generation A8 debuted for the 2004 model year.
The 2012 Audi A8 adds the A8 L W12 powered by a 500-horseower 6.3-liter W12 engine mated with an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission. The A8 L W12 updates include a single-frame grille with horizontal chrome accents and a jewel-like background, chrome accents for the exterior mirrors and chrome trapezoidal exhaust outlets. Available executive rear seating package for A8 L includes reclining relaxation seat with a power footrest, rear seat entertainment with dual 10-inch screens, a refrigerator, ventilated rear seats and 4-zone climate control. Audi connect enables Google Earth integration with panoramic views and aerial imager. Audi MMI Navigation adds street mapping data and real-time traffic information is available through SiriusXM Traffic. To read more about the 2012 Audi A8 Models, visit MSN Autos
